Smelly hose

When my garden hose hasn’t been used for a while, the water that comes out first has a chemical odor. What might this be & is it harmful to my “organic” garden? It sure smells like it would be. I returned one last year for the same problem & bought this better quality one, but it still stinks!

One Response So Far to “Smelly hose”

I also have a hose question. I badly needed new hoses this year, and bought several this week. The INSIDE of the packaging cardboard on the several different hoses I bought have stickers added that warn, “This hose contains chemicals, including lead, known to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive harm. Do not drink water from this hose. Wash hands after use.”

    YIKES!

These are hoses specified for home gardening use, but not for potable water use. Am I at risk using them to water my otherwise-organic vegetable garden?
