It is likely the case that the squash has not been pollinated completely. These squash will shrivel, turn colors and rot. If you don’t have enough pollinators in your hard you might have to start hand pollinating them.

I find that sometimes squash shed the early fruit, when pollinators are sparse, saving strength for the later fruit on a more mature vine, when pollinators are more plentiful. Also, excessive moisture, dampness and over-watering will cause this.
