What to Plant?
I am planning on relocating from SW Florida to the Asheville area of N.C. Can someone let me know what types of planning would work there and during what months are the best times to plant. Thanks!

Hi sancap, this is a good broad question but I wanted to go ahead and answer it here to encourage folks to look up their local master gardeners. Most communities have some type of program in place that will help you get growing under the sage guidance of experienced gardeners who know their regions very well.
I looked up a couple of things quickly, and it seems you can check out two sites from the get go to get you growing:
http://www.gardenasheville.com/
A really nice, comprehensive site that will probably be useful your entire time gardening in Asheville.
http://buncombe.ces.ncsu.edu/content/BuncombeCountyMasterGardeners
A great program that can put you in contact with your local master gardeners in Asheville.
For other readers, google “master gardener” with the name of your town and you’ll be on a good track. The reason this is such a good way to go is simply that each region of the country, every nook and cranny even just 1 mile apart, can have very different growing conditions.

You’ll be in zone 6 in Asheville, and depending on whether you want to do flower or vegetable gardening, there’s a lot of summer left to start on new beds or revitalizing old beds. There’s a lot of information here on the net and in the local area where you settle.
Master gardeners are a good resource, but if you’re going to go organic with your garden, make sure that your MG is involved in organics as well since those who practice typical synthetic methods may not have the same outlook–and vice versa.

Thanks so much for your quick response and such great sites with abundance of information. I have checked them out already and it’s exactly what I was looking for.
